Rail to Trail

The Yakima Greenway boasts ten miles of paved pathway and 12 major attrac-tions including:

  • parks,
  • fishing lakes,
  • picnic areas,
  • playgrounds,
  • parking lots, and
  • river access landings

along with protected and natural areas.

The Greenway facilities are free and open to the public year „round, dawn to dusk.

This rail to trail project will more than double the length of the Yakima Green-way by adding 10 miles to the path. It will connect the Town of Naches to Yakima, Selah, and Union Gap using the old railway line.

Bringing a trail in from Naches would not only add length to the Greenway path, but could attract more businesses to the area and increase activity within the area. The idea of this expansion has been harbored in the minds of visionaries for years, but it was not a foreseeable goal until Yakima County rail banked the line in 2004. With the first mile paved and the railroad ties re-moved, it is time to raise the money to complete the project.

Membership maintains the Greenway.
