Norm and Nellie Byrd
Off-Leash Dog Park
When you get a chance check out
our new off-leash Dog Park located
within Sherman Park. It is such a
beautiful setting and will be great
fun for both the 2 legged visitors and
our 4-legged furry friends. There is
still a lot to do to make it the best
off-leash dog park in the area.
There
is plenty of parking just west of the
Humane Society and the folks there
are more than excited about having
a completely fenced dog park so
convenient to them. They will help
by volunteering to show dog owners
the rules of the park and make sure
that everyone picks up after their
dog. Hopefully everyone makes sure
their dog is social and not aggressive
to other dogs or people.
Best Darn Dog Park Grand Opening Ever
The Grand opening of the Norm and Nellie Byrd Off-Leash Dog Park was on Saturday, May 22, 2010, where prizes were raffled off, and people socialized, along with their pets. A count of 40 dogs were in the park at one time and at least 75 dogs came and left during the 2 hour celebration.

Jeff welcomed the crowd on May 22... |

...and the crowd listened!

Sometimes there were "Words"... |
...but mostly there was playing.... |

...and running ...but mainly just playing! |

If you are interested in helping maintain or improve the off leash dog park please become a member of the Greenway and let us know how you would like to help improve it.
Legacy Stones
Pavers are now available. They will be placed in the Sally
Port where you can immortalize your
canine friend on one of the pavers.
The cost will help maintain the dog
park. Two lines with 28 spaces per line (including blanks) buys you almost 14 characters per line depending on spaces. You can get your dog’s legacy stone engraved and set in mortar at the entrance to our beautiful new off leach Dog Park on the Yakima Greenway. The cost is $60 for Yakima Greenway Members, and $75 for non-members. To place your request please call 509.453.8280 or contact jeff@yakimagreenway.org
We have added signage that
recommends that young children are
not safe and are not to be brought
into the dog park. The park is to be
used at the dog owners own risk.
There are also benches and a foot
bridge. The park can be
expanded in the future as well with a
fund raising campaign.
We will also have an official rededication
of the Norm and Nellie
Byrd Dog Park since the fencing that
was used to make the original dog
park down by Rotary Lake Parking
Lot was created from donations by
Norm and Nellie Byrd. We used
most of the fencing even though it
was laid down by the water during
the flood last January. Parks like
these often cost $30-50,000 of the
cities tax dollars to build, not to
mention the cost to maintain. And
here the Greenway will provide a
quality off-leash dog park to our
community for free.
If you are a dog
owner you should become a member
of the Greenway just to support the
dog park.
Please call our office if you are
willing to volunteer and help this
awesome park become even better.

Please call the Greenway if you are interested in helping volunteer some time to make this off leash Dog Park a success.
